WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

When you first press down on the accelerator, there’s a delay before anything actually happens. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) systems cause this, as they take the signal from the accelerator pedal and send it to the vehicle’s ECU. This entire process introduces a delay known as throttle lag. Additionally, manufacturers deliberately include this delay to make the vehicle suitable for a wide range of drivers.

Contrary to the old cable throttles, where the pedal was physically connected to the throttle valve, new drive-by-wire systems are completely controlled by the vehicle’s ECU. The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:

Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.

Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.

Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.

After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.

Absolutely, positively eliminated the absolutely annoying "deadspot" in the beginning of my 2021 Subaru Legacy Touring XT pedal travel. It felt like the first inch of travel did absolutely nothing, then the transmission would "jump" up and start doing something. Now it feels much more like our 2015 Legacy 2.4L and 2017 Outback 3.6L in initial response. But the REAL gamechanger is the behavior of the transmission and pedal together. We have a hill going into our neighborhood that I absolutely could NOT go up smoothly. It was a game of a little too much throttle and it would kick down and a little less and back to the deadspot. I've been trying to figure out how to "deal" with this for 6 months after buying the car. After installing the Pedal Commander and setting Sport mode I literally said outloud "What the hell? This is how it should be!" I can now easily hold a steady speed and throttle position up that hill. I don't know what magic is going on in that little box, but if you are frustrated with similar behaviors....get the Pedal Commander...it just plain works. I don't have to screw with paddleshifting and trying to trick the car into doing what I want...just push on the pedal.
